Moretti Silver Plum is the latest addition to my glass pallet. I had this style of bead on my mind when I added this top of the line color to my shopping cart during my last glass order.

Moretti Silver Plum has a deep concentration of silver. I used mostly a neutral flame while shaping this bead, hoping it would draw the silver to the surface.  The results were as I expected. Once I learn to tame this color in the flame I should be able to achieve a variety of effects with it.

Red Tigress Shoe Bead is fun and bold. The process of making this bead was exciting.

See this bead at The Shoe Factory Art Co-op’s 2010 Fall Art Exhibition, Boots and Shoes Variations on a Theme.

I have made three shoe beads for the The Shoe Factory Art Co-op’s 2010 Fall Art Exhibition, Boots and Shoes Variations on a Theme. They are Green Aventurine Shoe Bead, Stargazer Shoe Bead, and Red Tigress Shoe Bead.

Green Aventurine Shoe Bead, was the first created out of the three. I applied sparkly green aventurine powder to create a shell for the bead. To protect the surface of the shoe design I used vinyl tape and then heavily sandblasted the remaining aventurine coating. Exploring new options for creating textured beads is very exciting. I am really loving the relief style of this bead.

The Lentil press that I ordered came last weekend. I spent a portion of that Saturday morning making lentil beads, it was a lot of fun. I did have trouble removing my beads from the mandrels though, I bent almost all of them. Other than that the beads came out very well for a first run.

Orange, green, red, and topaz glass would be my Autumn pallet. I smashed the colored rods with a hammer to make frit. Frit was a good choice for decorating the beads during the learning process. Distortion can help frit application look interesting rather than making the bead look messy or flawed.

•Hole – 2.4mm (.09″)

Yay! I just ordered a large Zoozii lentil press, I can’t wait until it arrives. How I have wanted one of these for so long. I can’t tell you how many times I have clicked the add to cart button on Zoozii’s website and then thought, “naw, I’ll get one later, I still have to sharpen other skills.” Tonight I decided, now is the time, follow through and check out!
