iPhone Pic - Last nights beads

Available for sale during First Friday and my upcoming shows or you may inquire to purchase.

These beads are waiting to be removed from the mandrels and cleaned. As I unloaded my gear at the studio from today’s show, Spring Fling, I took a quick look at last nights work. Opening the kiln still feels like Christmas sometimes. Satisfied with this batch, I hope to make more like them, but you never know how things will go the next time. The beauty of being an artist. What is meant to be, will be.

* Large hole beads fit popular trademark bracelets, like Pandora, Troll, Chamelia and many others. These new wave charm bracelet beads are often referred to as European style.

The beads are not limited to wearing on a trademark bracelet or necklace, you can fit them on any cord or chain as long as the diameter is no larger than 4.5mm. They are also useful for beading projects that require a large hole. Be creative!

Splish Splash Ducky was inspired by Lucas’s rubber ducky from our bathroom. I headed out to the garage with the the perfect vision of how to make this bead.

Today I came home from work to find that my photo light box had arrived.  I ripped it open and set it up on a table much too small for it’s size.  I used this janky set up to photograph the beads that I had made in the past few weeks. The lights were definitely not adjusted in a good position and the tripod was not on stable ground.  The next few posts I put up will be from this fast and furious setup.  The light box has potential. Next time I photograph my work I will take the time to set things up right.  Being eager to document my recent beads before I have the baby I have decided to just post the quick photos.  Soon my baby will be the focus of my life and it could be a long time before I can set up correctly to redo these photos.

In late March I spent about three evenings working with implosion pendants.  Something I had only done before with borocilicate glass.  I was taking a strong liking to it, deciding that implosions would be my main focus for the next few months.  My goal was simple. I would practice the basic principles of implosion pendants and excel into creating more complicated patterns.  I hung one of these early prototypes on a beaded sterling silver chain and gave it to my Mom as a Mothers day gift.

In early April I learned that Jason and I are going to be a Mom and Dad! I have never felt so excited in my entire life. So I began to research making glass beads while pregnant. I couldn’t really find any information worth anything. So I am taking a time out.

Set of 5 yellow glass beads with 2mm holes.

With white as the base color I gently rolled the bead through yellow frit. Not knowing what the actual effect would be, I decided to gently heat the last few applications of frit without completely melting in the powder. Pulling them from the kiln the next morning I found that the result was a shiny, sticky, and sparkly looking texture that held a candy-like appeal.
